Description
Galvanized iron (GI) pipe is steel pipe coated with zinc to resist corrosion, the standard choice for water supply lines, plumbing, low-pressure fluid conveyance, handrails, fencing posts and general structural use where rust resistance is needed. The zinc coating dramatically extends service life in wet and outdoor conditions compared with bare steel, which is why GI pipe is a mainstay of Philippine plumbing and construction.
GI pipe is supplied by nominal diameter and schedule (wall thickness) in standard lengths, in both threaded and plain-end forms. Matching diameter and schedule to the pressure and application is important — a water main and a fence post need different specs.
