Description
Welded galvanized iron pipe is GI pipe formed by rolling steel strip and welding the seam, then galvanizing for corrosion resistance — the economical, widely available form of GI pipe for water supply, structural and general use. The welded seam is more than adequate for the pressures of ordinary plumbing and structural work, and welded pipe is the standard, cost-effective choice for the majority of applications.
Welded GI pipe is supplied by nominal diameter and schedule in standard lengths. For most plumbing, railing and fencing work, welded pipe is exactly what is specified; seamless is reserved for higher-pressure duty. See the specifications below for available sizes and schedules.
