Description
Black iron flat bar is mild-steel bar of rectangular cross-section — flat, with a black mill finish — used extensively for frames, braces, brackets, straps, gate and grille work, base plates and general fabrication. Its simple flat shape is endlessly useful: easy to cut, drill, bend and weld into whatever a fabricator needs. It is one of the most-reached-for stock materials in any steel shop.
Flat bar is supplied in a range of widths and thicknesses in standard lengths. The right combination of width and thickness depends on the load and how the piece will be used — a bracing strap and a structural bracket call for very different sections.
