Description
Stiffener Plate — flat mild steel plate for base plates, gussets, bases, machinery and fabrication. Stocked in standard 4×8 ft sheets across common thicknesses, cut-to-size on request.
The stiffener plate is a steel plate welded into a beam or column to reinforce it against local buckling and concentrated loads, typically fitted at connection points and load-bearing locations. Stiffeners strengthen the web of a section where a heavy load or a connection would otherwise cause it to deform, and they are a standard detail in structural steelwork at beam-to-column joints and bearing points. Their size and placement are specified by the structural engineer.
