The black iron hexagonal bolt is a plain, uncoated mild-steel hex bolt for general fastening in dry or interior conditions, or where the assembly will be painted afterwards. Its plain black finish makes it the economical standard bolt for indoor framing, machinery mounting, formwork and shop fabrication — anywhere corrosion protection is not the priority. For exposed outdoor use, a galvanized or stainless equivalent is chosen instead.
